In the 10 years since this school introduced “Karate Rocks!” aerobics, we have been on the forefront of the cardio kickboxing scene. Not only are our cardio kickboxing classes the most popular and advanced…we also offer more classes than anyone else! Most Ottawa martial arts or fitness facilities that include cardio kickboxing offer 4 classes per week. At The Canadian Sport Martial Arts Academy we realize the demand for this activity and have endeavored to meet it by scheduling 25 cardio sessions per week. Our cost-effective cardio kickboxing memberships allow members to attend as many classes per week as they choose. You don’t need to book a time – simply show up and get whipped into shape. All of our professional instructors are certified black belts as well as certified XBT personal trainers…and in top notch shape to motivate you like crazy!
With cardio kickboxing you can burn up to 1200 calories/hour…while learning valuable self-defense techniques and enjoying a great time too. Our cardio classes are open to men and women aged 14 and up. No experience, no uniform (wear your own workout clothes), no trainer partner is required – you will make plenty of new friends here. If you ever wanted to get in (and stay in!) shape but found the local gym and its treadmills too boring, this is definitely something you must try out. We guarantee that once you try it, you will be hooked…and with 4 scheduled classes per day there is no way you can’t make a couple sessions each week to invest in your long term health and fitness!

Pure Cardio: Fast paced session that combines kicking and punching drills timed to up-beat music. Work out at your own pace while doing your best to follow the instructor as he/she takes you through a series of combinations and toning drills that challenge the entire body. Main areas of focus are the arms, legs, butt, abdominals and the all-important hips.
(class sizes: 10 to 40)
Heavy Bag Training: This session provides resistance by applying kickboxing techniques to the heavy bags using boxing gloves. The instructor will lead you through various punching and kicking drills on the heavy bags that will provide a full body workout. Your muscles will immediately notice the difference introduced by the heavy bag resistance!
(class sizes: 5 to 20)
Kickboxing Technique: This session focuses on proper striking techniques to ensure that all cardio members have the proper foundation to apply to the other kickboxing classes. It is recommended that beginners attend this class for their first couple of weeks.
(class sizes: 5-20)
Cardio Resistance: Similar to the pure cardio class but with the added challenge of holding and utilizing small dumbbells (2 to 10 lbs) throughout the class. This dramatically increases the difficulty level.
(class sizes: 10 to 25)
Kickboxing Drills: This session covers hundreds of conditioning and kickboxing drills and exercises. Emphasis is on boxing drills using focus pads, partner drills, kick drills and a lot of kick/punch combination work.
(class sizes: 5 to 30)
Body Conditioning: This exciting new class focuses on developing the “core” and overall body strength using a variety of drills and exercises. From one class to the next, you never know what you will have to face: exercises include dumbbell work, Swiss Ball or medicine ball training, abs or resistance bands. This is the perfect class for those looking for an alternative to lifting weights in the gym.
